Working with children on the autism spectrum is very challenging, but is also rewarding. These are children who need special attention, special teaching methods. But once they become familiar with the new environment of the dance class and after the first basic exercises they already begin to establish self confidence. And then, some of them really open and become creative, that’s when you start seeing
In order for our children to develop a harmonious personality, it is important to help them discover and encourage them to pursue an artistic activity. We at Brighton ballet foster creativity – and teach children to express themselves through movement of their body. Although dancing requires repetition – because practice makes you a better dancer, as we all know – the creative process becomes active and lasts during whole class: it is at its basic element the curiosity to learn everyday something new -new movements, techniques, dances and terminologies.
And now a little bit about traveling and meditation, and what makes me feel good beside my work.
Travel is an important component of any person’s well-being. Just as healthy eating, exercising and meditating – traveling helps to shape our personality by opening the mind to new impressions, perspectives and ideas. It is important to reserve time in your life to travel and clean your mind, take a deep breath of air cleaned from rush and stress and escape from day-to-day routine.
To be a teacher is to eliminate pride and think about others the same as you think about yourself and your family. Your class becomes your family. You get to know your students by their names, and every day you learn more about their personality. Once you know them and they feel it, students are happy and confident when you are around them, and that gives you motivation. You’re doing your best to stay on top of your field inside and outside of your areas of expertise, and your knowledge must not be limited to curriculum and art canons. But you must also create an atmosphere of motivation and confidence that keeps the good vibe in the class and this is the way to do so:
Here’ it is – the curtain is down, the performance is over and all our efforts are rewarded by the warm applause.
At the end of the year we take time to assess our achievements, we rejoice is our success which make our efforts worthy and our failures insignofficant.
Perhaps most of all my efforts I am proud of my dance magnet class.
I am very excited about our performance by my troupe of dancers from the public school I teach to.
I’ve been working with my girls from the dance magnet group of I.S. 228 for over a year now, I come to know them, to see their progress and to admire their determination.
